The Big Moment Had Arrived
It was time to head out. I grabbed my things, hopped into my car, and played my Spotify playlist of movie theme songs. This helps to jazz me up and flip my mind from focusing on nervousness to excitement. After all, the body reacts similarly to both and it boils down to what you tell your mind.
I was then just a few blocks away from my destination, waiting at a stop light. So what better way to use my time than to practice my power pose. I placed my hands on my hips and puffed out my chest. I allowed myself to feel into my power.
I pulled into the parking lot, feeling more confident. Once inside, I placed my belongings in a chair, asked where the restroom was, and initiated phase three.
I looked at myself in the mirror and said out loud: You’ve got this girl. You’ve got this. You’re going to rock it! Calm, deep breaths.
Game time!
I introduced myself and rocked it for over three hours. I spoke at and facilitated a company’s sales and marketing summit, fully present. I allowed the conversations to unfold as needed, listened, interacted, shared feedback, and was calmer than I’d expected.
I stood tall the entire time, speaking with confidence. Words just flowed out of me. I allowed myself to pause to provide thoughtful responses and guidance, to feel into what to share next. And it ended up being a success. I did it.
What big moment do you want be present for in a confident way?
As shared, here’s the breakdown of the three things that helped me and can help you show up fully and confidently, and remain present for your big moments:
Play powerful music to excite the senses and pump you up! I love movie theme songs like those for Wonder Woman, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Avengers. Click here for the link to my Spotify playlist for inspiration.
Stand tall and engage in a power pose to feel confident. In my car and while in the bathroom, I placed my hands on my hips and stood tall to feel into my confidence and power. Just two minutes of this increases your testosterone levels and risk tolerance while also decreasing your cortisol (stress hormone) levels. Don’t believe me? Check out Amy Cuddy’s TED talk.
Give yourself a pep talk. I repeated to myself numerous times while on the drive over to the company’s office and while in the restroom, the following: You’ve got this girl! You’re going to rock it! You can do it! You are confident!
So what bold action can you take to live more of the life you’ve imagined for yourself? What will you boldly say yes to to allow your courage to play in the world? How will you step more fully into your potential and exercise your confidence?
It’s amazing the things you can accomplish in your life when you boldly say yes and set your courage free.
